We just returned from a trip to Franklin's parents last evening and a day long trip to Quilotola today. Quilotola is the westernmost volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3 kilometres (2 mile) wide lake was formed by the collapse of the volcano following a catastrophic eruption about 800 years ago, which produced flows that reached the Pacific Ocean and volcanic ashe throughout the northern Andes. It is now a 820 feet deep crater lake, greenish in color as a result of dissolved minerals. On the way to the crater and on the way home, there were hours of breathtaking views on winding mountain roads. A BIG thanks to Patricio, Angie, Cristian, who took us on this trip we will remember forever! Here are a couple pictures of the crater lake.
